My friend introduced me to Southgate Cinema, which does free showings of movies on Southbank.
It’s a great concept – the day before the screening, you just register online for free tickets. They set up an area in Southgate with comfy deck chairs (around 20 other people) and everyone has their own headsets. You can order wine, popcorn and other movie snacks (which we of course, had to oblige).
We both love the film Amélie, so when my friend found out it was showing at Southgate…we planned weeks in advance to register for tickets – setting up calendar reminders since tickets go really quickly.
Amélie is one of my favourite films – I remember the first time I watched it, it was at uni where you could only hire it for a few hours so had to watch it in these small cubicles with headsets. I remember just grinning and chuckling to myself (not unlike a crazy senile lady) as everyone else was studying hard around me.
Southgate Cinema will be showing lots of food related films during the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival – see the website below for the full screening schedule.
